Trump has broken his silence on Rep. Matt Gaetz and personally stated that Gaetz has never asked him for a pardon.
In an official statement, Trump wrote, “Congressman Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon. It must also be remembered that he has totally denied the accusations against him.”

The New York Times had falsely claimed that Gaetz “sought something in return” for supporting Trump during his whole term, and stated that Gaetz “privately asked the White House for blanket pre-emptive pardons for himself and unidentified congressional allies for any crimes they may have committed, according to two people told of the discussions.”
